We don’t have many snow days since we moved to Florida, but my kids STILL talk about their amazing snow days from before the move. Right now I think we are all digging deep to hold it together so if an unexpected extra day indoors has you down try these things to do on a snow day.
Momming can be hard and winter momming can be torture. Make sure you are taking care of yourself too.
Things to do on snow days
I think hot chocolate just means cozy and it is a tradition nay a RITUAL in my house to serve hot chocolate after playing in the snow. Could there be a better option for things to do on a snow day? I think not.
Take it up a notch with these first two options.
1. Have a Snow Day Hot Beverage Tasting
Hot chocolate, ciders, teas, coffee whatever combination works for you.
Here are some kids drink recipes to get your started;

2. Making Hot Chocolate Bombs
Yum and fun. Kids love the ooh and ahh factor of these bombs and your tweens will love making them.
These are hard chocolate spheres filled with hot chocolate mix and other yummies! Pour steaming hot milk over the top and watch the chocolate melt away and it is like hot chocolate magic.

3. Create an indoor obstacle course
If you’ve already run out of outdoor fun, but still need to burn energy let’s get started with an indoor obstacle course. These are great because they can be adapated to the age of your child AND the older kids love to help (you know do it) build them. This requires some supervision so that kids aren’t hanging off balconies by one hand, but you get the idea.
Raising Dragons has some inspiration for you.
4. Building a Snowman and a Snowman Contest
Your kids still interested in playing in the snow?
If you have enough snow try building a snowman. Go traditional OR use an alternative inspiration like Olaf.
Post on social and ask your friends to submit their snowmen and you take a vote for the best in different categories.
- largest
- smallest
- most non traditional
- best animal
- best female
- most traditional
- best topper
- best arms
- most original
You get the idea. If your kids are older you might even be able to send them outside to suffer enjoy doing it on their own.
The Spruce has some instructions to help guide them through the process.

5. Make a marshmallow snowman
I’ve seen several versions of this, but these are my favorite because they don’t require crap I don’t have. We actually were gifted a set to make over the holidays, but they are adorable any time.
These guys are just as cute without the toppers and we used chocolate chips for the eyes and m&m candy for the buttons – so be flexbile.
You could put them in a hot chocolate hot tub (as long as your kids won’t be traumatized)
6. Indoor Hide and Seek (A favorite thing to do on a snowy day)
We love hide and seek here. There is just something ridiculously exciting about waiting to be found. Try variations that are easier to do indoors and in small spaces. Early impact learning has some great ideas.
Sardines which is like reverse hide and seek (this is a great way to really occupy some time in your snow day)
The object is to find the person that hides and join them. Until there is one person left looking for everyone elese.
This great for larger groups, but you can play it with the family. I suggest that older kids or adults team up with the littlest members of the household. This is a great thing to do on a snow day.
